How Much Should You Expect To Pay For Car Grilles?

Altering your car with modifications can be an expensive habit – not something you need when motoring, especially with a luxury or sports car, is already an expensive habit. If you want to upgrade the vulnerable plastic grille from the factory with a gleaming new custom stainless-steel mesh grille insert, you don’t want to be paying through the nose for it. So, let’s take a look at a breakdown of how much you should expect to pay for a grille. 

A custom car grille will be more expensive than if your original part is damaged – pebbles smashing through the plastic defences, or a knock in the carpark by someone who reversed just a tad too far – and you decide to replace it with another OEM grille. But of course, cheap parts are cheap for a reason and a hand-made woven mesh grille is going to be far more durable and dependable than a flimsy plastic unit made in a factory mould. 

The different types of car grilles

Grille prices vary by size, finish, model of the car to be fitted, and more.

A complete grille set for a Porsche Cayman 981 will cost much more than a complete grill set for a Toyota MR2 (beginning at £420 for a Porsche and £295 for a Toyota, respectively).

A grille set that comes equipped with parking sensors will logically cost more than a single plain grille. Depending on the model of car – and also on whether your car is fitted with parking sensors, such as the Honda S2000 model – a single front grille begins at £70.

Lower grilles and sets tend to be more affordable than a full set because these are much smaller than the primary grille, often acting either as cooling ducts for the brakes or simply as a design flourish for the overall aesthetic. 

The radiator grille 

Being both a significant part of brand identity and the car's overall styling, the radiator grille (at the front of the car) is usually the largest and often has a more complex shape than the smaller lower grilles. Not only this, but as the name suggests, they also act as the front-line of defence between high-speed road detritus and your radiator or intercooler. For any sports car with a front-mounted engine, such as the Toyota GT86 / Subaru BRZ, the last thing you want is a rogue twig to pierce your radiator and cause damage to the very heart of your car. Being larger and slightly more complex to produce, these will cost you more than the smaller grille of some other cars.
